Next week we’re having the Digital Schmooze Cruise 2010 on June 15 (use code dccruise today for a discount – tickets here). The boat leaves from Georgetown for a 2-hour trip along the Potomac river. The event is part of Digital Capital Week.

Later this summer will be the 10th Startup Rockstars event, with more details coming soon. We’re also planning a workshop for small businesses.

1Piazza July update

The summer in the DC area is one of the coolest in years… and most of us are loving it! The next Startup Rockstars – #6! – is approaching on September 9. It will be hosted again by Latham & Watkins, in a larger space and with a reivised format. The presenters will be announced in early August. The photo below is from the June 2009 Startup Rockstars after-demos networking.

This month we’ve also had some planning meetings for evolving 1Piazza towards the vision that has always been a part of it. The mission statement has been worked on, and a plan of action is being drawn up. More details later – contact us if you’d like to know more.

We’re also planning a fall workshop for startups, as mentioned in the June event. Expect the event to be posted by early September.

Startup Rockstars demo DC – event

On Aug. 21 we’re having a demo night featuring some of the startups in the DC area. It will be held at Viget Labs in Falls Church, followed by a social gathering/happy hour at Dogwood Tavern nearby.

Social & Startup Rockstars Demo DC Night!

6:00 – sign-in at Viget Labs – soft drinks / snacks available
6:15 – demo’s start – 10 minutes each, including Q&A/comments
7:15 – demo’s end, head to happy hour
7:30 – Happy hour at Dogwood Tavern in Falls Church

There is no cost to attend the event, and depending on sponsors for the happy hour, we will have appetizers and more.

Social Rockstar Networking Dinner

On July 31 there is a Social Rockstar Networking Dinner in DC. It is a chance to meet and greet others interested in web technology, social web/networking, and entrepreneurial areas. On July 17th there is a social networking event – the Twin Tech Party (TwinTechDC)- and 1Piazza is sponsoring a night to remember. The reason for the event includes bringing together the twin types of entrepreneurial tech in this town… the established and the newer (including “web 2.0″) startup types. The event has recently been posted, and is still being set up in terms of location. We’ll be at the event, conducting interviews and enjoying meeting new people.

And we’ve thrown the OpenCoffee event the next morning into the mix as the “Morning-After Party” at around 9am (8:30am for those who like to be on time!).

1 Piazza Launch – empowering social knowledge

After debating several names, the winner is

1 Piazza

… which embodies the wonderful social energy of a public piazza with centuries of traditions, with the idea of “one” place to go for socializing, learning, relaxing… while perhaps taking some pictures, going to the bank, doing some commerce, eating, drinking, and finding new friends. Someday we’ll dig up photos of some traditional piazza birds, and for now enjoy this snowy “birds taking off” photo for this launch-day post.
